Gomoa Otwekrom (C/R), Aug 27, - The Gomoa District Assembly has set aside 136 million cedis or 20 per cent of its share of the Common Fund for poverty alleviation. Mr Thomas Aubyn, MP for Gomoa East announced this at the annual "Egua Todo" festival of the chiefs and people of Otwekrom in the Gomoa district of the Central region. He said this in accordance with government directive to district assemblies to encourage the setting up of income generating ventures and to maake farming attractive to the youth. The MP called on the people to form co operatives to enable them to benefit since they can not apply for assistance as individuals. He said the assembly is to embark on small scale irrigation projects for all year round farming adding that a co-operative society formed last year has acquired a tractor for hiring to the farmers. Mr Bismark Yawson, assemblyman for the area urged parents to invest in the education of their children and called on school management committees (SMC) to monitor the activities of teachers and pupils to promote effective teaching and learning . He advised the people to change their lukewarm attitude towards communal labour and to undertake more development projects. Nana Otwe Ababio, the ninth, chief of the town called on the government to tar the 20 kilometre Gomoa Fawomanye to Buduatta Junction road.
