Gomoa Assembly to give greater portion of poverty fund to groups

Apam, March 08, GNA - The Gomoa District Assembly would in future allocate greater portion of its Poverty Alleviation Fund to organized groups wishing to undertake animal rearing, mushroom production and snail farming.

Madam Joyce Aidoo, the acting District Chief Executive, therefore urged fishermen and farmers to the advantage of this to go into such farming to supplement their income.

She said this at a parade of school children and voluntary organisations at Apam to mark the 48th Independence Anniversary. More than 1000 school children from twenty-three basic and senior secondary schools participated in the March pass, which the EKOS Preparatory JSS came first with points.

Salvation Army JSS placed second with twenty-two points, while Methodist JSS was declared third with twenty-one points. In the primary division, Salvation Army was first with 24 points; followed Royal Preparatory took the second position with 23 points with the Catholic school taking the third position with 22 points. They were presented with cash awards.
