Gomoa Brofo (C/R), March 30, GNA - Ms Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive has appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads to expedite action on the re-construction of a bailey bridge over River Ochi, which collapsed about two months ago.
She said that as a result of the collapse of the bridge many people in the area had been cut off from the rest of the district making life unbearable especially for the farmers.
Ms Aidoo made the appeal when she took newsmen and members of the Gomoa Brofo Unit Committee on an inspection of the bridge on the outskirts of Gomoa Brofo, on Tuesday.
The bridge collapsed last February when a heavy truck of the Adventist Relief Agency (ADRA) was crossing it resulting in the death of the driver's mate on the spot.
Mr John Evans Awudze, Secretary of the Gomoa Brofo Unit Committee who accompanied the DCE said towns, which had been cut off include Gomoa Asempanyin, Ajumako Ansa, Tweikukrom, Bibiano and Mando. He called for the early re-construction of the bridge since the area would be completely cut off when the raining season begins and the river overflowed its banks.
Mr Awudze said water supply to the towns had been also been disrupted since the pipe-lines were damaged when the bridge collapsed The DCE gave the assurance that everything possible would be done to replace the bridge and appealed to the people to exercise restraint while efforts were being made to re-construct it.
