Gomoa Maim gets GH¢79,000 school block

Gomoa Maim (C/R), Feb. 16, GNA - A school block built by the Gomoa W= est District Assembly for the Gomoa Maim District Assembly Primary School has been inaugurated. The building estimated at a cost of GH¢79,000 was built from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive assured Ghanaians that the government's policy t= o invest in the nation's human resources was on course. He said to this end, schools under trees were being replaced with permanent buildings to enable the children to study in enabling environments.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the classroom accommodation problems created by the New Patriotic Party regime by extending the Senior High school course from three years to four years without making any provisions for classroom and residential accommodation for the students, was being solved through th= e construction of additional blocks for the SHS.

He said new modules of the National Youth Employment Programme had bee= n introduced and the youth were being trained to be employed in the new modules. The DCE expressed concern about the rate at which school lands were being encroached upon by estate developers and urged chiefs to help school authorities to prepare the necessary documents to cover their plots. He commended Mrs Sati Ocran, a citizen of the town for the good work she had been doing to uplift the image of the town and appealed to the people to give her the necessary support. Mrs Augusta Akyaa Sarpong, District Director of Education, said education would promote development and urged parents to invest in the education of their children.

She appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to connect electricity to schools to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT. She urged parents to pay regular visits to their children in school to check their progress and to know their problems. The chief of the town, Nana Ewusie appealed to the government to tar the road linking the town with Essarkyir and also to extend the School Feeding Programme to the school.
