Gomoa Dawurampong (C/R), April 13, GNA - Students in the Gomoa West District who would secure between aggregates six and 10 in the on-going Basic Certificate Education Certificate Examination would be awarded scholarships to pursue Senior High School Education. Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, announced this when he addressed Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates at their examination centres at Dawurampong Senior High Technical School and Apam Senior High School on Monday. The DCE visited some of the centres to encourage the students, wish them well and also to find out problems in the conduct of the examination.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah, who is also the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), urged the candidates to produce good results to demonstrate to the government that the interventions it had put in place had impacted on their performances.

The DCE advised them to write boldly and clearly as the examiners would not get them to explain what they had written to them when marking their scripts.

He expressed disappointment when he was told that five of the female candidates who were writing their papers at the two Apam Senior High School centres were pregnant. The DCE expressed concern about the inability of some parents to meet the basic needs of their young daughters, which he said often compelled them into immoral practices with males for some financial support.

He cautioned parents, especially fathers, to live up to their responsibilities because school girls with pregnancies were becoming a national canker. Mr Aidoo-Mensah advised the students against destruction of school property after the examination and disrespecting their school heads and teachers. He reminded them that a time would come when they would return to their former schools for testimonial reports and other relevant documents which could help them with their future lives.
