Apam (C/R), July 21, GNA - Gomoa West District Assembly has approved supplementary budget estimated at GH¢2,680,502.01 for the 2011. The following are the breakdown; indebtedness GH¢691,137.73; cost of new programmes and projects GH¢1,382,052.17; and contingency GH¢607,312= ..11, At an emergency meeting at Apam, Mr Anthony Eyiah-Quansah, the Presiding Member cautioned assembly members to guard against making unsubstantiated statements to the media.

He warned that the assembly would not rescue any member who got entangled with the law for making unguarded statements which he or she coul= d not substantiate. Mr Eyiah-Quansah urged them to 93leave their party colours at home before coming to the assembly meetings," reminding them that the District Assembly Concept is non-partisan.

The Presiding Member said they would not be able to 93move the assemb= ly forward" as expected if they introduced partisan politics into their activities. He urged them to respect their chiefs and opinion leaders from whom "we must take advice."

He reminded them that assembly members did not have more power and authority than chiefs therefore on no account must they (assembly members) impose their ideas on the chiefs. "It is unfortunate that reports had indicated that some assembly members were at loggerheads with their chiefs over who wielded authority over the other," he said.

The Presiding Member cautioned such members to go and reconciled with their chiefs immediately, saying; 93I cannot see how an assembly member ca= n work successfully without the support of his or her chief." Mr Peter Antwi Boasiako, District Coordinating Director, urged the assembly members to discuss the budget dispassionately to enable the assembly to come out with an acceptable document to be presented to the Regional Coordinating Council for approval.
