Gomoa West District Assembly inaugurated

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, has charged the newly elected Members of the Gomoa West District Assembly to assist the Assembly to boost its internal revenue generation drive.

They should work tirelessly to ensure the rapid socio-economic development of the area.

The DCE, who was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 52 newly elected members of the assembly at Apam on Tuesday, urged the members to discuss developmental issues with their communities after every assembly meeting.

He expressed concern about the failure of some Assembly members to participate in the National Sanitation Day Exercises and urged all to embrace it to encourage their people to appreciate and participate fully in it.

Mr. Aidoo Mensah, pledged that the Assembly would maintain a good working relationship with Traditional Councils in the District and appealed to the chiefs to reciprocate by encouraging their people to participate in communal labour.

The work of an Assemblyman, he said was not partisan and so they should never seek their personal interest, he advised.

The meeting overwhelmingly elected, Mr. Clement Acquaye as the new Presiding Member with 46 out of 52 votes cast, replacing Mr. Anthony Eyiah Quansah, the former Presiding Member.

The Omanhene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, who presided, advised the assemblymen to ensure that lands in the area does not get into the hands of private estate developers, else there will be no land for agricultural development in the future.

The newly elected members were later sworn into office by Mrs. Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture development who also led them to swear the oath of office.

The new Presiding Member was also sworn into office by the Apam District Magistrate, Mr. Eric Ansah Awuah.
