Apam (C/R), May 7, GNA - The Gomoa West branch of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), has engaged 1,099 youths in various modules since the past two years. Mr Alex Gyimah, District Coordinator of the NYEP said this at the graduation and presentation ceremony of the programme at Apam, on Friday. In all, 45 youths, including four boys, received sewing machines after completing a six-month intensive training in dressmaking. "Asontaba", a branch of the NYEP sponsored the training programme and also provided the sewing machines to the trainees. Mr Gyimah mentioned youth in agriculture, community teaching assistant and health extension workers, as some of the modules the youth are engaged in. Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive said the training and the provision of the machines to the youth were in fulfillment of President Mills pledge to invest in the human resource of the country. The DCE challenged the New Patriotic Party to tell the people of Gomoa what they did for the district during their eight year administration.

He said the NDC, within the past two years, had done more than what the NPP did in eight years and appealed to the people to rally behind President Mills for a better future. Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, Member of Parliament for Gomoa West commended the trainees for taking part in the training programme, and also commended the resource persons for doing an excellent job. The MP said he had connected the remaining 15 communities in his constituency to the national electricity grid, saying that, 93now all the 98 communities in the constituency are enjoying electricity. Mr Polycarp B. Kazaresam, Coordinator of the 93Asontaba", said the number of trainees in the next programme would be increased to 150. He said his organization was ready to provide container workshops for the trainees on credit basis, which would be paid in instalments. Nana Osibi, Central Regional Coordinator of NYEP said the programme was preparing to roll out additional modules and appealed to the unemployed youth to register with the secretariat of the programme, to enable them to benefit from the modules. 7 May 11
