The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Courage Quashigah, has stated that due to poor leadership at all levels, political, religious, social, cultural, and managerial problems, the country has sunk to such dangerous depths that the government would need enough time to revamp the nation.

He said at all levels the nation has experienced at one time or the other leadership of tribalism, nepotism, vindictiveness, and of keeping the people ignorant, which is the most dangerous of all the negative leadership traits.

Mr. Quashigah made this statement during the founder's day celebration of Soka Gakkai International of Ghana.

He observed that Ghanaians are ignorant of their rights and responsibilities and that is why President Kufuor is demanding positive change from Ghanaians.

He called on politicians, religious leaders and law enforcers, which are moving in a negative direction to make a "round about turn" and follow the President, who has stepped on the "positive roads."

The minister said the President has always held the view that "human beings could never be made to become peaceful or virtuous, individually or collectively, by the use of more power except through the expression of love."

He appealed to all religious bodies to vigorously teach the virtues of love and for a group like the SGI it should make the celebration an annual affair and well publicised.

In a welcome address, the vice-General Director of SGI, Bobson Godonu, said throughout history, Buddhism is the only religion that has never been propagated by the use of arms but through dialogue due to their great respect for life and human dignity.

He said "as a member of SGI peace must begin with you and spreads, as enlightened individuals become active in the cause of peace at the local, national and international levels."

He said it is the belief of SGI that in peace lies harmony, development and freedom.
