Government does not have the capacity to quantify losses incurred in the electricity power outages that has hit the country since 2012, Kasapafmonline.com‘s Stephen Odoi-Larbi, who is reporting from Parliament quotes Power Minister Kwabena Donkor as saying.

“The Ministry of Power lacks the competence to quantify the loss, ” he said in a written answer addressed to the MP for Nabdam, Hon. Boniface Gambila Adagbila on Wednesday.

The Nabdam legislator had sought the Minister’s answer on whether there have been attempts to quantify the losses of the power cuts to the national economy.

Specifically, he wanted figures for the years 2012, 2013, and January to September 2014.

A verbal answer to the question was not admitted on the floor of the House to pave the way for follow up questions.

The Business Committee contends that Hon. Gambila in submitting his question requested for a written answer in accordance with Standing Order 64(4) of the House..

Mr. Donkor commenting further on the issue said the ministry was aware that some work in that area has been done by the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Center for Economic Policy Analysis (CEPA), Statistical Services and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).
