Gov’t not prepared to run Komenda Sugar Factory due to politicization - Fmr Board member

A former member and secretary to the management board of the Komenda Sugar Factory, Mr. Ransford Chatman Vanni-Amoah has revealed the unwillingness of President Nana Akufo Addo’s to run the Komenda Sugar Factory due to how the governing party members chastised the previous government for putting up the project.

According to him, when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in opposition, series of press conferences were held against the construction of the factory claiming Komenda is a notable fishing community and does not deserve such a factory.

In an interaction with the media, the former Secretary to the Management Board responded to claims made by President Akufo Addo’s during his recent visit to Komenda to meet with the Chiefs and people of Komenda.

In his recent tour of the Central Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said there were several lapses in the feasibility, planning and construction of the factory which had led to its shut down after the inauguration.

But Mr. Vanni Amoah observed that the President only went there to play politics with the people of Komenda instead of him to put aside whatever reasons his government has to operationalize the factory as soon possible to create employment for the people in Komenda and Central Region at large.

He indicated that the $35 million money that was used to build the Komenda Sugar factory was neither for opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) nor former President John Dramani Mahama’s but a loan that will be paid by Ghana irrespective of the party in power.



Mr. Vanni Amoah called on the people of Komenda and Central Region to rise up to demonstrate against the government’s lack of commitment to the factory stating that he will be very happy if the factory that was set up to provide 7,300 direct and indirect jobs will be employed only NPP activists rather than be in a white elephant.
