Government must urgently pay the retirement package of ex-military officers in order to avoid unnecessary tension in the armed forces, the ranking member of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament has said.
According to the Major (rtd) Derick Oduro, government’s indebtedness to the ex-military officers currently stands at GH¢17 million.
He believes the situation if not urgently addressed will affect the morale of serving soldiers.
“The members of the Ghana armed forces are sacrificing, whether they have it or not, they don’t say but I want the public to know. That is the sacrificial work that they are doing".
“Those who are even on pension, those who are on leave they have to pay their relieve packages. Government owes them about 17 million cedis,” he stated on the floor of parliament, Tuesday.
