Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has said government was committed to improving infrastructure at the School of Social Welfare at Essipon in the Western Region.

“So far the drawings for the institution, clinic and other such facilities have been completed and submitted to the Ghana Education Trust Fund to expand the school”, she added.

Nana Oye Lithur said this during a visit to the school to donate sewing machines, and other stationery to the students of the school in fulfillment of an earlier promise made some seven months ago when she first visited the school.

She said the current design would pull down the 1948 structures of the school, and build in place 18-unit classroom block, Administration and an Information, Communication and Technology Centre, to give the school a face-lift.

Nana Oye Lithur, therefore, encouraged the students to study hard and come out with good grades and employable skills that could turn their fortunes around.

Mr. Samuel Ackom, Headmaster of the school, mentioned encroachment on the school lands, coupled with lack of educational supplies, as the major problems facing the school.
