Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister, at the weekend, re-assured people in the region that government would not renege on its campaign promises to them.

For this reason, she entreated them to be unwearied, as government facilitates procedures for the completion of major projects in the region.

She acknowledged that work was progressing steadily on the University of Health and Allied Sciences, and that the project was possibly expected to be completed early next year, together with segments of the eastern corridor road project, which suffered some funding difficulties.

Ms Ntoso, also Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi West, was speaking as the guest at the annual yam festival celebration of the chiefs and people of Chonke Traditional Area at Borae Number-Two in the Krachi Nchumuru District.

She said work on several highways and feeder roads across the region are progressing, while others are being awarded on contract, and assured the people that difficulties may arise, but the sector would witness a massive face-lift.

Ms Ntoso said specifically that Chinderi-Bejamse, Borae-Chinderi, Chinderi-Bandoboya, Chinderi-Zongo road networks, as well as the Nkpare Bridge on the Zongo-Macheri road, would receive immediate attention.

She said interventions from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and WaterAid, would help improve water problems in the Krachi Nchumuru district, while 25-30 communities in the Krachi West, East and Krachi Nchumuru districts, would be connected to the national grid.

The Minister said the National Democratic Congress-led government tops the scale on the provision of health, education, roads and water infrastructure based on its social democratic ideals, and would not compromise on it this time round.

Mr John Majisi, MP for Krachi Nchumuru, cataloguing his contributions to the infrastructural development of the area, said a six classroom block has been constructed at Kpandai Buye, adding that a new clinic was under construction at Worenja, to serve a population of 2,000 after the rehabilitation two others.

He said another set of 1,000 footwear were about to be distributed courtesy of the Bright Generation, a Kumasi-based non-governmental organization, with the contract for additional 200 dual desks from the earlier 350 being awarded.

Mr Majisi said collaboration with the Assembly would result in the installation of 13 street lights at Borae, and urged the people to honour their tax obligations to enable government raise the needed revenue for the rapid development of the area.

Mr Solomon Puyon, District Chief Executive of Krachi Nchumuru, urged the people to continue to maintain the peace, as a pre-requisite for accelerated development, and educate their children.

Daasebre Kwame Bonja the second, Owure (Paramount Chief) of the Chonke Traditional Area, said the festival serves as a platform for reviving the cultural and traditional bonding and values, as well as harmonizes the area’s resources for socio-economic development.

He said the area is handicapped with potable water, and mentioned Zongo, Macheri and Borae Nkwanta as the hardest hit areas for urgent attention, and called for the extension of electricity to the area.

On health, Daasebre Bonja appealed to government to upgrade the Borae Clinic to a health care centre, as the distance to the nearest hospitals are 50 and 30 miles away.

He pledged the readiness of the traditional area to release tracts of land towards development projects, including large-scale farming projects.
