The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) now has a permanent office complex. After operating its secretariat from rented premises in the Accra Metropolis over the last decade, the government decided to offer the GJA, the clubhouse of the divested GNTC, opposite the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra.
The Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku who handed over the keys to the building to the executives of the GJA, urged the media to remain courageous and focussed in playing its watch-dog role in society.
He explained that the building was donated in fulfilment of the NPP government’s pledge to offer the press a convenient environment to carry out its watchdog role effectively. Dr. Apraku restated government’s commitment to working closely with the media, due to the remarkable role they play in society.
The President of the GJA, Gifty Affenyi Dadzie on behalf of the executives and journalists of Ghana, expressed appreciation to the Kufuor government for the assistance. She noted that no effort would be spared to renovate and upgrade the complex to international standards.
