Government To Decide On Bui Hydro- Electric Project.

Vice-President Aliu Mahama has announced that government will soon take a decision on the commencement of the Bui hydro-electric project after reviewing the contract awarded by the previous administration in 1999 to a British Consortium.

He said government would also decide whether the consortium could go ahead with the project after the review. A GNA report quoted Alhaji Mahama as saying that although the project conforms to the manifesto of the NPP to improve on national electricity supply, there is the need to examine every aspect of the contract to make sure that it is in the interest of the state.

The Vice-President made these known during a meeting with Mr David Meehan, Project Director of Brown and Root Consortium at the State House. The project, which has been on the drawing board for several years, is expected to last for 100 years after completion and inject over 500 million dollars of foreign investment into the national economy.

It will also enhance the country's potential to become a net exporter of electricity in West Africa. Mr Meehan said his organisation is ready to solicit for funds for the start of the project if government gives the go ahead
