Government has been advised to extend the coastal defence wall from Anyanui in the Keta Municipality to Aflao in the Ketu South District as a matter of urgency.
Mr. Godfred Kwaku, a consultant of the Hydro Service Department of the Ministry of Works and Housing said this when the Volta Regional Minister Mr. Henry Ford Kamel led officials to inspect progress of work on the 3.7 kilometer Atorkor-Anyanui Sea Defence Project in the Keta Municipal area.
Mr. Kwaku said the sea was likely to shift towards Anyanui, with the construction of the sea defence project at Ada and Atorkor-Anyanui and that the first phase of the 60 million dollar project covering 2.7 kilometres has enabled the reconstruction of the Akplortorkor-Anyanui beach road.
Mr. Kamel expressed satisfaction with the work so far done and observed that the reconstruction of the Akplortorkor-Anyanui road has once again opened the area to commercial activities.
Mr. Kamel later paid a courtesy call on the Awoamefia of Anlo state, Togbui Sri III, who he commended for his zeal towards the Atorkor-Anyanui sea defence work and for personally sponsoring a number of youths from the area to undertake courses in oil and gas exploration.
Togbui Sri III, said government’s commitment towards Anlo has been encouraging even though more work remained to be done in the areas of education, roads, agriculture and drainage.
Other officials on the trip included Ms Dzifa Ativor, Deputy Minister for Transport, Nii Amasah Namoale, Deputy Minister for Agriculture in charge of Fisheries and Mr. Henry Ametepe, Deputy Volta Regional Minister.**
