Government asked to assign psychologist in hospitals

Winneba (C/R), April 29, GNA - The Director of Guidance and Counsell= ing Centre of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), Rev. Eldad Bonney ha= s appealed to the Government to assign professional psychologist in all Hospitals and other Institutions to assist people who need psychological help. Rev. Bonney made the appeal at a symposium, organised by the student= s of the Department of Psychology and Education of the UEW, at the Communit= y Health Nurses Training School in Winneba on Wednesday.

The programme was under the theme "Choosing a life Partner, What I n= eed to know".

It was aimed at sensitizing the public on the importance and essence= of guidance and counselling in the life of every human being and also as par= t of fulfilling the requirement of group counselling by the students. Rev. Bonney urged the students to be assertive and "open their eyes when choosing partner instead of rushing to choose someone who will not b= e accommodative". In a speech read on behalf of the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, by Mrs Sally Nelly Coleman, an Assistant Director of Education i= n the Municipality, said in choosing a life long partner, one needs to comm= it his or her intentions to God for a better choice.

un-ending study and learning, but the foundation must be well grounded, spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically for a smooth take-off. In a paper presented on behalf of the students by Mr James Boafo sai= d there are three types of marriages in the country and this differs from o= ne society to the other.

He said for any marriage to be legal, it must pass through the laid down customary stages determined by the customs and practices of the particular ethnic group. He said the types of marriages acceptable in the country are Ordinan= ce, Islamic and Customary, adding that, any of these marriages empowers a man=

and woman to stay together as husband and wife.

He advised young people preparing for marriage to first earn career and an income to ensure a lasting and sound marriage. Mrs Charlotte Mensah, Principal of the Winneba Nurses Training schoo= l, who chaired the programme, urged the students to use the information they=

have gathered to enable them to choose the right and healthy partner in life.
