Government asked to provide vehicles for Police at Gwollu

Gwollu, Aug 14, GNA - Kuoro Buktie Limann, Paramount Chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area, has appealed to Government to provide the Police at Gwollu with vehicles and increase the number of personnel to ensure effective maintenance of law and order in the Sissala West District.

He expressed worry that the Police in the area were finding it difficult to combat armed robbery and other crimes.

Kuoro Limann, who made the request when the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Issahaque Salia called on him at his palace in Gwollu on Thursday, to introduce himself to the chief of the area, cited that there had been two armed robberies in recent times between Kupulima and Leo border town of Burkina Faso in which market women were robbed of cash and personal belongings.

He said such activities affected economic activities between people in the district and those in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Kuoro Limann said "Right now the Police are helpless and my people are living in perpetual fear and sometime urgent must be done to stop the menace of armed robbers in the district".

He also appealed to Government to rehabilitate roads in the district and two bridges linking Gwollu and Jeffisi to facilitate economic activities.

Kuoro Limann said the Metro Bus which used to ply the district had been withdrawn due to the deplorable nature of the roads and that had compelled people in the communities to travel from Gwollu to Tumu to join buses to Wa.

He commended Government for the construction of Senior High School in the District and asked the contractor working on the project to deliver quality work.

Alhaji Salia commended the chiefs and people for sustaining peace in the district, which he said was a pre-requisite for development.

He said government recognised the role of chiefs in the maintenance of peace and democratic governance of the country and asked them to support Government for the development of their communities.
