Anomabo (C/R), Dec 5, GNA - The enactment of the Council on Technical and Vocational Education and training, which creates the environment for skills acquisition demonstrates the government's commitment to technical and vocational education, a Council of State member has held.

Mr Ato Essuman, who made the assertion, noted that past education reforms failed to replace core academic programmes with a combined training in vocation, technical and the humanities.

=93This is because students still prefer the grammar type of education due to limited progression within Technical and Vocational streams to Polytechnic Institutions and beyond, consequently, there is gross disparity between public Senior Secondary Schools and public Technical and Vocational schools,=94 Mr Essuman said at the 13th anniversary and First Speech and Prize-giving Day of Kwegyir Aggrey Secondary/Technical School at Anomabo in the Central Region. Mr Essuman, who is the Chief Director at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, said the introduction of a four-year Senior High School would adequately equip students to pursue tertiary education. He expressed the hope that the new reform would restore the emphasis that was lacking in the educational system on science, technical and vocational training to equip graduates with skills needed by industry to promote economic development.

Mr Essuman urged parents to invest in their children's education and tasked students to study hard to make the investment of them worthwhile.
