Government determined to reduce unemployment - DCE

Wassa-Akropong (W/R) Nov.19,-GNA- Madam Doris Oduro, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amenfi East has re-echoed the government's plan to establish at least one industry in every district as a means to reduce youth unemployment.

She said the skills training programmes and financial assistance particularly to women entrepreneurs to promote and expand small and medium scale industries have been designed to provide employment to check rural-urban drift by the youth in search of non-existence jobs. Madam Oduro was addressing the people during a familiarisation tour of some communities in the district on Thursday.

They included Nanankor, Japa, Apesewaa Gyaman and Afransie. She said the government would continue to adopt policies and programmes that would further accelerate its rural development efforts. Madam Oduro said Unit Committees as well as Area and Town Councils would be strengthened to promote good governance.

The DCE mentioned improved education, health and socio-economic needs of the people as some of the priority areas to be tackled by the district assembly.

Mr. George Addo, District Coordinating Director advised the people to cooperate with the district assembly to ensure smooth implementation of government programmes and policies to enhance their lot.

He urged them to form cooperatives to enable them to get easy access to credit facilities from the assembly and other institutions.
