The police will receive GH¢800 million within the next six months to purchase modern equipment to help fight crime, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced.
Included in the purchases will be motorbikes and ammunitions, he added.
The president said the Ghana Police Service will also purchase drones and helicopters.
He made this known on Thursday when he delivered the state-of-the-nation address in Parliament.
President Akufo-Addo believes this will facilitate police visibility and mobility to ensure a safe environment.
This comes in the wake of ongoing countrywide police recruitment, which is expected to rein in about 2,000 recruits.
The president encouraged the police to crack down on offenders of the law.
On the Ghana Armed Forces, President Akufo-Addo said works on the Barracks Rehabilitation Project has started.
The Ghana Armed Forces in the previous government started benefitting from a government-private partnership project to build new homes.
Although the current government has said it will review that agreement, the president’s address was silent on that.
