The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana is yet to develop vaccines to curb the virus
Government is expecting to receive about 12 thousand doses of H1N1 Influenza Vaccines to carry out a vaccination exercise with the Kumasi Academy, KUMACA and the school’s immediate environs as priorities.
A Deputy Minister of Health, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu who made this known to GBC’s Garden City Radio in Kumasi noted, that the vaccines have been ordered and are expected to be delivered very soon for the inoculation exercise to be carried out.
Mr. Aboagye Gyedu said all the students and staff of the school will be vaccinated to avert any more infections of the disease.
He said even though there is a confirmed incidence of the H1N1 Influenza at KUMACA, the infection rate is not enough for health authorities to declare it as an epidemic.
The Deputy Health Minister noted that for a disease outbreak to be considered an epidemic, there should be 10 deaths per week and five infection cases per every one hundred thousand population in accordance with the World Health Organization’s benchmark.
Mr. Aboagye Gyedu therefore urged Ghanaians to stay calm as government is doing all it can to subdue the infections.
