Members of the Berekum Citizens Association in the Brong Ahafo Region are unhappy about the neglect of communities in Berekum which has affected the development of the area.

According to the Association, Berekum which used to be known as the Golden City has lost its status because of underdevelopment.

The Association noted that Berekum cannot compare itself to other towns like Dormaa, Wenchi Nkoransa and Techiman in relation to development.

Addressing a press conference, Spokesperson for the association, Francis Manu Gyan noted that all major roads in Berekum are in a deplorable state and have become worse during the rainy season.

He noted that schools in the area are also in bad state and not helping teaching and learning saying, “In this age and time we still have schools under trees in our Municipality."

The only police station in the community, he said is very old as "The current one was built in the 1960s.The charge office is like the size of an ordinary kitchen and the cells cannot hold ten suspects.”

He also revealed that the Municipality has no ambulance and the van that was being has broken down for more than a year.
