The government is in discussions with several private sector companies to provide housing facilities for primary healthcare professionals throughout Ghana.
During the Primary Health Care Series organized by the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative at KNUST in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, revealed this information.
"We are negotiating with many private sector companies, all of whom have shown interest. Soon, you will see us breaking ground for these projects. They will be spread across the country," Dr. Nsiah-Asare said optimistically.
He emphasized Ghana's progress towards achieving universal healthcare coverage, stating, "People will know that they are accountable not just to someone in Accra, but to someone within the community."
Dr. Nsiah-Asare also highlighted the importance of strengthening health insurance to cover basic primary healthcare services and emphasized the need for local manufacturing of medical consumables.
"Most drugs and non-drug consumables are imported into the country. We cannot continue like this," he noted.
Dr. Mrs. Princess Ruhama Acheampong, Liaison Officer of the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative at KNUST, affirmed their support for government initiatives in strengthening the primary healthcare sector.
"Listening to Dr. Nsiah-Asare, he has shed more light on our activities, and anyone
who has been a part will attest to the impact this is making. With the efforts the government is putting in place, we know that there are also complementary projects that are helping to achieve our goals."
