Government is committed to development- Adjei-Duffour

Dormaa-Ahenkro, (B/A) Sept. 24, GNA- Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government is determined to pursue its agenda for growth and development, especially in the areas within the context of the Golden Age of Business.

He noted that the issue of poverty in our communities has been the concern of the government to address the problem to improve the living conditions of the people.

Mr Adjei-Duffour was addressing over 100 participants at a workshop of the Rural Enterprises Project (REP) phase two of the Dormaa District at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The workshop, attended by various stakeholders including the staff of Dormaa District Assembly, representatives of local trade associations, youth and women groups, aimed at providing a forum for the participants to generate ideas for the implementation of the project.

He also said that REP, which seeks to address poverty could actually serve as the catalyst for economic prograess of our rural people through the provision of basic skills in business management, technology, transfer, provision of financial services and market linkages.

Mr Adjei-Duffour disclosed that under the phase one of the REP, eight districts in the Brong Ahafo namely benefited from various interventions.

The Deputy Regional Minister said the six districts that have been selected for the second phase of the project include Dormaa and Asutifi Districts.

He charged the District Implementation Committee of the project under the Chairman of the Dormaa District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Duku to work harder and ensure the smooth implementation of the project. Mr Kwasi Atta-Antwi, the project coordinator said the project is to train artisans including carpenters, mechanics, traders and other professional bodies in various skills to enable them to be self-employed.

He also said the success and failure of the intervention of the project in the district will be a clear manifestation of the level of commitment of the Assembly.
