Government is sensitive to the plight of rural people - Assembly Member

Akrofuom (Ash), June 6, GNA - The people of Akrofuom in the Adansi West district have seen tremendous growth in terms of development projects over the past two years, Mr Maurice Jonas Woode, an assembly member in the area, has noted.

Mr Woode who was addressing a community fund-raising meeting said the development projects were a manifestation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's sensitivity to the plight of rural communities. More than 18 million cedis was realised at the function.

Mr Woode enumerated the construction of a maternity block, a block of six classrooms, an office and a storeroom for the Methodist primary school, a girls' dormitory for the Akrofuom Secondary/Technical School and the tarring of the Obuasi-Akrofuom road which is on-going as some of the projects.

The assemblyman said an amount of 20 million cedis generated last year through community fund-raising had been judiciously used to improve the lot of the people.

Mr Woode added that the community had secured a 50 million cedis loan to convert 30 out of 50 market stalls into storerooms to enhance the vibrancy of the market. He announced that the district assembly had agreed to renovate a medical assistant's bungalow.

Mr Joe Boampong, the District Chief Executive, commended the three assembly members in the area for their unity, which he said, had contributed to the development of the town.

He however, expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the Obuasi-Akrofuom road but assured the community that the project would definitely be completed.
