Government lacks political will to solve drainage issues – Sampson Ahi

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi Constituency in the Western Region, Sampson Ahi has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the lack of plans and strategies to put to an end the age old drainage issues bedeviling the country.

According to the former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing under the Mahama administration, the NDC government at the time had initiated plans to see to the complete control of flood in the country, which they had set in motion but was unfortunately voted out of government.

“During our time, we initiated the Conti project, that was to address holistically our drainage system, but there were some issues so we had to abandon the Conti project” he said.

Hon. Sampson Ahi, in an interview with host Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM that the Nana Akufo Addo led administration has shown zero commitment and is also clueless on the steps to take to ameliorate the issues of flood after halting some projects of the erstwhile administration due to financing.

“We had started some projects before our exit, when this government took over, we were expecting them to fund the project and continue with it but they never did” he added.

Meanwhile, some major routes in the capital (Accra) got flooded after Monday night’s rainfall. Many houses were submerged, leaving several others homeless.



Engineers have blamed the cause of flood, which has become perennial on poor drainage system and building on water ways.
