Government presents five vehicles to Police

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA - Government through the Minister of the Interior, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyeman on Tuesday presented five, four-wheel drives worth 775 million cedis to the Ghana Police Land Guard Unit. The vehicles were meant to facilitate the work of the Police in ensuring peace in the country especially in helping resolve the issue of land guards.

The Interior Minister said the Unit was incapacitated by lack of logistics, particularly vehicles to facilitate movement and it was important that they were equipped to help to resolve land issues faster. Mr Owusu-Agyeman said the land guard issue had created a lot of problems in the country and "Government would not allow people to take the law into their own hands and sell one land to three or more people, hence the institution of the Police Land Guard Unit".

He said those who engaged in multiple selling of land would be prosecuted when caught.

Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police, said the issue of land guards had created a lot of problems in the country and appealed to land sellers and buyers to behave responsibly.

He also appealed to District Assemblies and individuals to support the Police in terms of accommodation for the personnel and donate more vehicles.

The IGP said the Government had been very supportive by providing logistics to enable the Police to do their work but said they needed many more vehicles.

He gave the assurance that the Police Administration would take very good care of the vehicles.
