Mr Ishmael Ashietey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has called on the chiefs and people of Ga Mashie to observe this year’s Homowo Festival in peace.
He made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency when he led a government delegation to present food items to the Dantu We of Lante Djan We in Accra to support the celebration of the Festival.
The items included crates of soft drinks, bags of maize, two gallons of cooking oil, three crates of beer, two bottles of gin and a cash of GH¢2,000.00.
Mr Ashietey said the Government would not tolerate chieftaincy disputes which slowed down development and appealed to the chiefs to engage in acts that would bring development to the Greater Accra Region.
He said the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs was making efforts to settle some misunderstandings among the chiefs in the Region.
He gave the assurance that the security agencies would ensure that peace prevailed before and after the Homowo celebrations.
Nii Lantei Otanka II, the Lante Djan We Mantse, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the Government for the kind gesture.
He appealed to the authorities and opinion leaders to advice the youth to avoid acts that would disturb the prevailing peace of the area.
Nii Lante Bannerman, a former New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Odododiodoo, also made a donation to the chiefs.
