Government presents letter of appointment to Togbe Sri III

It was a historic day for the Anlo State and the Volta Region as a Letter of Appointment was presented to Togbe Sri III, the Awomefia of the Anlo State as the Sole-Mediator for the Conflict in Bimbila in the Northern Region.

The letter was presented at a colourful emergency meeting of the Anlo Traditional Council which was attended by the Hon. Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Kofi Dzamesi; Hon. Minister of Information, Mr Kodjo Oppong Nkrumah; Hon. Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed; and Hon. Minister for National Security, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah who lead the government delegation.

Also present were the Chief Executives for Anloga District Assembly, Keta Municipal Assembly, Ketu South Municipal Assembly, South Tongu District Assembly and Akatsi North District Assembly.

The District Chief Executive for Anloga District Assembly, Mr Seth Yormewu in his welcome address expressed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana for appointing Togbe Sri III as the Sole-Mediator in the conflict.

He also expressed his confidence that Togbe Sri III would bring lasting peace to Bimbila.

The Hon. Northern Regional Minister on his part congratulated Togbe Sri III on his appointment, on behalf of the Northern Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Nanumba Traditional Area.

He expressed the confidence that the huge experience of Togbe Sri III in peace, security and tradition would be brought to bear in resolving the conflict in the area.

He, furthermore, stated that Togbe Sri III would be able to mediate the conflict, for the people of Volta and the Northern Regions are brothers and sisters.

The Hon. Chieftaincy Minister used the opportunity, to address the gathering, to express his appreciation to the President for the appointment of Togbe Sri III and the creation of the Anloga District Assembly.

He stated that the appointment was an honour for the Anlo State.

The Hon. Minister for National Security on his part acknowledged the greatness of the Anlo State and was impressed with the credentials of Togbe Sri III

He stated that the President reposed great confidence in Togbe Sri III and spoke highly of him.

He also acknowledged the importance of the Chieftaincy Institution in national development

Mr Kan-Dapaah said the conflict had adversely affected the Bimbila area.

He indicated that the President had directed that he, the Hon. Northern Regional Minister and Hon. Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs provide the needed support for Togbe Sri III to deliver on his appointment.

The Hon Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, indicated that the President has kept faith with the Anlo State by creating the Anloga District, and appointing Togbe Sri III as a Sole-Mediator in the Bimbila Conflict.

Dr Letsa acknowledged that the President has done the Anlo State and the Volta Region an honour through the appointment. In this regard, He expressed the appreciation of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and the Region to the President.

Dr Letsa also indicated his preparedness to give the necessary support to Togbe Sri III in order for him to succeed in bringing lasting peace to Bimbila.

The Letter of Appointment was delivered to Togbe Sri III by Hon. Oppong Nkrumah.

Togbe in his acceptance speech stated the Anlo State has accepted the appointment.

He expressed the appreciation of the Anlo State to the President for the honour done it.

He intimated that the appointment did not surprise him, for he had had education in conflict resolution and peace-building, and had practised same.

He concluded by requesting God's wisdom and guidance in the district charge of his duty to bring peace to Bimbila.
