Accra, Nov 23, GNA-All the 38 teacher training colleges in Ghana have been provided with 60-seater TATA buses to ease their transportation problems, Prof Dominic Fobih, Minister for Education, Science and Sports, said on Friday.
Additionally, as part of a programme to upgrade the Training Colleges, the Principals of all the 38 Training Colleges have been provided four by four Nissan Patrol vehicles. Prof Fobih made the announcement in Parliament in answer to a question asked by Dr Owusu Achaw Duah (NPP-Offinso South). Dr Duah had wanted to know when the Offinso Teacher Training College would be given a school bus to ease the acute transportation problems facing the College.
Prof Fobih in an answer, said the College had been allocated a bus under the allocation of the buses to the Training Colleges. The Minister also reiterated Government's policy to upgrade at least one Senior High school in each district to a model status and announced that phase one of the programme had almost been completed. He promised to furnish the House with a list of 25 Senior High Schools for which he said contract for a second phase of the upgrading programme had been awarded.
Prof Fobih said Dwamena Akenten Senior High School for which Dr Duah had asked when it would be upgraded into a model school, might be considered in the next phase of the upgrading programme. He said the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, in the Atwima Mponua Constituency might be selected when remaining districts were being considered for upgrading.
