Awutu-Bawjiase(C/R), Aug 19, GNA - The Chairman of the Awutu-Bawjiase Area Rural Bank, Mr Emmanuel K. Osei, on Thursday commended the Government for introducing the Micro Credit Scheme to promote small-scale businesses and enterprises.
According to Mr Osei, the programme since its inception had assisted thousands of small-scale businessmen and women, particularly petty traders to improve their ventures.
He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Bawjiase on the impact of the Micro-Credit Scheme on female customers of the Bank in the past four years.
He said that the Bank had helped over 5,000 petty traders and female farmers to improve their economic status through the scheme. Mr Osei commended donor and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's) for their contributions and expressed the hope that they would continue to assist the bank sustain the Scheme in the Awutu-Bawjiase, Kasoa and Adeiso areas.
The Chairman of the Board expressed his appreciation to the shareholders and customers of the bank for their support and urged them to attend the 15th anniversary of the Bank scheduled for September 3, this year to enable them to offer suggestions to improve its operations. Mr Osei praised the Bank of Ghana (BOG) and the ARB Apex Bank for their guidance and supervision, which had gone a long way to improve the operations of the Bank and appealed to them for further support.
