New Abirim (E/R), Jan. 31, GNA - The Chief of Pankese in the Birim North District, Nana Mireku Dankwa Misah, III, has attributed the achievement of the government during the past six years to its involvement of the people in the decision making process. Nana Misah was contributing to the Sixth People's Assembly at the Birim North District at New Abirim on Tuesday.
He called on Ghanaians to support the government to sustain the country's democratic process to improve upon the socio-economic gains to enhance the living standards of the people. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah said the economic achievements of the government was due to hard work and support and called on Ghanaians to improve upon the economic gains of the government.
The Regional Minister said a micro credit and small loan scheme offices would be opened in the regions and districts for the youth and small-scale business personnel to access loans to enhance their business.
The Deputy Minister for Education, Sports and Science in-charge of Secondary Education, Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi said 21 billion cedis has been spent on the New Abirim/Afosu Secondary school for infrastructure since it has been designated as one of the model secondary schools in the country.
He said 50 billion cedis was also spent to provide textbooks for schools in the country last year. The District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Nana Acquah Frempong said the assembly is sponsoring 364 students in the Nursing, Teacher Training Colleges, Senior Secondary Schools and some tertiary institutions in the country.
He said 371 youth have been employed under the Youth Employment Programme, while the government and other donor agencies are providing infrastructure in the road, health, water and sanitation sectors to enhance the living standard of the people. He said 20,175 people registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2001 and 1.4 billion cedis has so far been collected as premium as at last year
