The Akufo-Addo administration is set to commission 185 housing units for government workers in the Ashanti Region.

The housing units comprise three, four, and five ultramodern bedroom apartments meant to house some public servants in the region and are 90 percent complete.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, toured all four different sites at Ridge, a suburb of Nhyieaso.

The housing units are all located on government lands at Nhyieaso in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to OTEC News reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng after the tour, Simon Osei Mensah reiterated the government's commitment to providing quality, affordable housing for public sector workers.

He noted that the move formed part of the government's efforts to reduce housing deficits in the country.

He, however, noted that the government will be renting the apartments to the occupants at affordable prices, adding that the tenancy agreement will be signed between the government and state agencies and not individual occupants.

Source of Funding:

Briefing the media about the funding for the projects, the Ashanti Regional Lands Officer, Peter Osei-Wusu, revealed that the government signed an agreement with private construction firms that built the houses and took parcels of land in return.

He revealed that the government lands located at Nhyieaso were evaluated by the Ghana Institute of Surveyors, adding that all contracts went through the Public Procurement Authority to ensure value for money.

The agreement, according to him, has facilitated the smooth construction of the project as the government did not have to commit any funds to the project.
