Busunya (B/A) Aug. 12, GNA - Government has been asked to upgrade the health centre at Busunya in the Nkoranza North District into a hospital, to adequately meet the health needs of the people. Mr. Donatus Achisiba, the District Director of Health Services, made the appeal when he addressed a review meeting, organised by the Directorate for 30 health workers drawn from the five health facilities in the area, at Busunya at the weekend.

He said the health centre lacked a laboratory and patients with serious cases were referred to the St. Theresa's hospital at Nkoranza, about 20 kilometres away.

Mr. Achibisa expressed concern about the poor state of the Busunya-Nkoranza road and said the lives of referred patients were at risk because of irregular transportation.

He said the health centre lacked potable water and appealed to the district assembly to construct a borehole for the facility. Mr. Achibisa commended the government for funding the construction of a counselling unit at Yefri Health Centre, saying it would encourage the people to check their HIV/AIDS status.

He mentioned malaria, respiratory track infections, rheumatism, skin diseases, hypertension, accidents and eye infections as cases that were mostly reported to the Out-Patient Department. Mr. Achibisa commended the workers of the Health Centre for their contribution to the development of health in the area. The Deputy District Coordinating Director, Mr. Sylvester Amankwaa Koranteng appealed to the people to support health officials to work effectively.

Mr. Koranteng gave the assurance that the assembly would do its best to improve facilities at health centres in the area.
