Ho, May 12, GNA - Government cannot continue to rehabilitate disaster victims indefinitely, Mr Henry Ametefe, Volta Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO said on Tuesday. Individuals would therefore have to be disaster conscious by engaging competent artisans, choose their building sites carefully, and buy insurance policies to protect their properties against fire, flood, storm and other unforeseen situations.

At a media briefing in Ho, Mr Ametefe said if government would have to be rehabilitating disaster victims always, then it would end up building homes for almost everybody in the country.

Mr Ametefe said NADMO would be signing Memorandums of Understanding with District Assemblies to ensure that contractors were surcharged with the rehabilitation of damaged public buildings arising from shoddy work. He said in future government would only take responsibility for clearing debris arising out of disasters as pertained in some other countries.
