Adansi-Asokwa (Ash), Feb 12, GNA- Plans are far advanced for the construction of a permanent health centre at Adansi-Asokwa in the Adansi East District of Ashanti to replace the present one housed in rented premises.
Dr David Kwasi Amankwaah, Adansi East District Director of Health Services, who announced this on Thursday said the construction of the new health centre had become necessary because the centre, which was originally opened to serve only the town, now caters for all the surrounding communities.
He was speaking at the Adansi-Asokwa sub-district's celebration of the first anniversary of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Wednesday. The District Director of Health Services therefore asked the people to get ready to offer communal labour for the early completion of the project when it takes off.
Dr Amankwaah advised the people to take balanced diets always since most of the diseases in the country were caused by poor diet. He also urged the people to take more fruits since research has shown that fruits enable people to live disease-free and live longer. Nana Kwabena Kyere, Krontihene of Adansi-Asokwa, commended the government in its bid to develop the area and pledged the readiness of the people to offer communal labour to support the project when it takes off.
He said the traditional leaders had already earmarked land for the project and were only waiting for it to take off.
Nana Asamoah Yeboah, Adanbsi East District Disease Control Officer, advised churches not to force people to go for HIV/AIDS test before marriage.
He said even if the need arose, churches should first let the people first see HIV/AIDS counsellors for both pre and post test counselling and said forcing people to go for the test amounted to infringing on their human rights.
Madam Faustina Mensah, Senior Nursing Officer in-charge of the health centre, commended the people for their support to the workers at the centre over the years.
