He said the opportunity of making progress in national development in the era of globalization was through ICT.

Mr. Donkor said this at the introduction of the Portuguese language at the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) in Accra. The Portuguese language brings to seven the number of languages, which included Arabic, German, English, French, Spanish and Russian studied at the Institute.

Mr. Joe Donkor also said with globalization and free trade, the ability to joggle two or more languages gives one a distinctive advantage on the job market.

He assured the Institute of government's support and asked that the facilities made available be put to good use.

Dr. Koulog Bimile, Director of GIL stated that the school would from start a Bachelor of Arts in Translation this year. He said the objective for this upgrading has become necessary as result of the problems that most Diploma holders have to go through in terms of job placement and conditions of service compared to degree holders in various organizations.

Dr. Bimile also noted that since the inception of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) the institute has enjoyed a great deal of financial support.
