Government to pay compensation for Peduase land

Aburi(E/R), Oct. 31, GNA - The government has given the assurance that it would pay adequate compensation for the land acquired for the building of the Presidential Lodge at Peduase.

In a speech read on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor at a grand durbar of chiefs and people of Aburi to climax the celebration of this year's Odwira festival he said the government would also give back to owners lands acquired by the State for projects, but were not utilized.

President Kufour, however, advised landlords who have interest in undeveloped government lands to contact the appropriate governmental organization for explanation on such lands saying when a project is delayed it does not mean it has been abandoned. He appealed to traditional authorities to ensure free and fair elections in the in December.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Gustav Narh Dometey called on traditional authorities in the Akuapem Area to find solutions to all land and chieftaincy disputes towards the development of the area. He urged the people to unite and harness their human and natural resources towards the socio-economic development of the area.

Aburihene, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Aburi township roads and particularly the one leading to the Aburi Botanical Gardens to promote tourism in the area. He also called on the authorities to build teachers bungalows, dormitories and assembly hall for the Adonten Secondary School to facilitate teaching and learning.
