John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will procure 40 additional armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service to enhance its operational capacity in combating crime across the country.
The President said the new fleet will complement the 40 armoured vehicles acquired last year, which he noted have significantly improved the police’s response to armed robbery and other emerging security threats nationwide.
He made the announcement during the commissioning of a new Divisional Police Headquarters at Laasi in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, according to a channelonenewsonline.com published on May 2, 2026.
“I’m happy to inform the IGP that another 40 armored cars are coming,” President Mahama said.

“When you send our officers to protect you and fight violent people, you have to provide them with the instruments and the tools to be able to do so,” he added.
President Mahama explained that the procurement forms part of a broader government agenda to modernise the country’s security architecture through sustained logistical support and infrastructure development.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a professional, modern, and people-centred police service capable of preventing crime through intelligence-led operations, innovation, and stronger collaboration with communities.
“Security remains the bedrock upon which national development can be built. Without peace and stability, there can be no meaningful progress, no quality education, and no thriving business. It is for this reason that my administration continues to prioritise investment in the security sector, particularly the Ghana Police Service,” he stated.
