Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - Government is to provide more than 500 infrastructure nation-wide to accommodate the increase in population of students that would be entering Senior High School (SHS).
"We have also started providing for schools under trees as well as some primary school infrastructure in most deprived areas," Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education said in Accra.
He was addressing the closing session of the Second Annual National Education Sector Review on Thursday in Accra.
Mr Tettey-Enyo commended all stakeholders for partnering government in its quest to improve the educational sector.
He said government would continue to support processes of upgrading selected SHSs as well as tertiary educational institution in the country with facilities to ensure increase access and quality education delivery.
Mr Tettey-Enyo pledged the Ministry's support towards government's commitment in ensuring that every Ghanaian had access to the best quality of formal, non-formal and informal education.
He expressed government's commitment towards the establishment and implementation of a long term human resource development policy linked to clear-cut government's economic policy.
Mr Tettey-Enyo said "The Ministry is also looking forward to the development of a database of the skills needs of the economy in collaboration with concerned agencies to help design definitive programmes that would inform the nation's tertiary education sub-sector".
He commended the participants for their inputs to improve deficiencies in the educational sector towards the implementation of the Education Strategic Plan (ESP).
The workshop was attended by about 150 stakeholders from across the country and representatives from DFID, UNICEF and some District Chief Executives.
