Government to renegotiate for return of Cuban Medical Brigade

Bole, (NR), Feb. 24, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday announced that government would renegotiate with the Cuban government for the posting of the country's medical brigade to Ghana. He said the programme which was truncated a few years ago

was placing heavy responsibilities on Ghanaian doctors. Vice President Mahama made this known when he presented

an Ambulance and medical equipment comprising hernia set,

four pieces of amputation set, three pieces of caesarean set

valued at GH¢50,000 to the Bole District Hospital. The Vice President called on health administrators to

streamline the National Health Insurance Scheme in order to

generate more funds for the sustenance of the programme for

the coming years. He gave the assurance that government would provide the

infrastructure to reduce the incidence of diseases and child

mortality rate, which had the bane of the health sector. Mr Emmanuel Ewuntomah, District Director of Health

commended the Vice President for the equipment and said it

would facilitate and motivate the personnel to step up their

productivity. The District Director appealed to the government to establish

more community health clinics for people in the remote areas. Mr Ewuntomah called for the upgrading of feeder roads in

the district to facilitate the transportation of patients from rural

areas to the hospital.
