Government to resource neglected MDAs

Wa, July 11, GNA - Mr Andrew Awuni, Deputy Minister of Information on Wednesday said the Government was working hard to secure resources for all departments and agencies, which had been neglected in the past, to enable them to perform their statutory functions effectively.

He noted that the Information Services Department (ISD), Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) were all going through hard times as a result of either obsolete equipment or total lack of the requisite tools to work with.

Mr Awuni said this when he met staff of the Information Services Department and the Ghana News Agency at Wa during a day's working visit to the town.

The visit, which was the first since his appointment, gave him the opportunity to interact with staff of departments and agencies under the Ministry.

The Deputy Information Minister said most of these organisations were at the verge of collapse when the present government took over. Mr Awuni said: "Even items like tables and chairs were not available for staff in some ISD offices.

"The situation at GNA is a said story. GBC Radio One is almost dead as the organization has had to contend with only one transmitter.

"With time, all the difficulties facing these organisations will come to an end."

He announced that the government had started making arrangements to import new cinema vans for the ISD while some of the old vans in the system were being rehabilitated for use.

He said motorbikes equipped to do media work in remote areas were also in the process of being secured. They are meant for areas, which are not accessible to cinema vans.

"We as a government will lead the country in honesty, truth, righteousness and humility."
