Government to upgrade skills in Polytechnics

Ho, Aug 23, GNA- Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State for Tertiary Education on Friday said the government will soon come out with a programme for upgrading of skills in the country's Polytechnics. Ms Ohene said this when she inaugurated a 16-member Re-constituted Ho-Polytechnic Council at Ho.

She said Polytechnics play a vital role in moving the economy forward. She called for peace to prevail at the campuses in order to produce people capable of manning the industries.

Ms Ohene described the Ho-Polytechnic as a centre-of-excellence and urged it to let the people in the area to know its contributions to the country's industries.

Professor Francis O. Kwami, Chairman of the Council said Polytechnic education at the tertiary level was relatively new and this has brought out some problems.

He said the problems needed to be solved quickly for the polytechnic to make the desired impact on national development. Professor Kwami expressed gratitude on behalf of the members to the government for the confidence reposed in them and gave the assurance that they would contribute for the development of Ho Polytechnic.

Dr George Afeti, Principal of the School, led the Minister and council members to inspect development projects being carried out from the GETfund.

The projects include a computer laboratory, Auditorium and lecture theatre and a four-storey classroom block to be completed in December this year. 23 Aug. 03
