Koforidua, May 28, GNA - The Convention People's Party parliamentary candidate for Aburi-Nsawam in the 2008 elections, Mr Isaac Opare-Addo, has said the duration for the senior high school should revert to three years.
He told the GNA in an interview that the argument that the more years spent in school makes the students learn better could not hold because there are a lot of students who passed through the three-year SHS educational system and had come out as good professionals. Mr Opare-Addo said the problem facing the education system that needed to be overcome is the introduction of non-competitive examination at all levels of education under which students who fail their end of year examination move to the next class.
He said the policy that students should not be repeated and should be made to move to the next class without considering their performance does not encourage students to learn hence the poor performance. He called for the introduction of competitive examination at all levels of education so that students who fail their end of year examinations are made to repeat the class.
Mr Opare-Addo appealed to President John Atta Mills and his government to adhere to what they promised the people of Ghana in their manifesto and for which Ghanaians gave them the mandate to manage the affairs of the country for the next four years and should not allow themselves to be misled by anybody or group. 28 May 09
