Government votes GHc3.5 Million for Military educational projects - Vice President

Government has through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET-Fund) allocated GHc3.5 Million to the Military High Command to improve on the facilities of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Vice President John Dramani Mahama announced on Wednesday.

He said apart from rehabilitating and re-equipping the library of the College, the command would also expand other infrastructural facilities to make it the centre of excellence on the entire continent.

Vice President Mahama announced this when he inaugurated a four-storey Academic Block Complex and Auditorium at GAFCSC in Teshie, Accra.

The project which started a year and a half ago, has offices, lecture rooms, conference rooms and ultra-modern 500-seater auditorium complex and would host students undertaking Post Graduate degree and post-graduate diploma programmes.

Vice President Mahama advised the military command to open up most of their programmes to civilians to enhance effective civil-military cooperation that would promote unity and development in the country.

He gave the assurance that government would continue to resource the military command and the college to serve Ghanaian professionals and nationals of other African countries.

Major General Kwesi Yankson, Commandant of GAFCSC said his outfit had drawn up plans to rope in other security organizations and government officials in decision-making positions especially in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He said such a collaboration would help deepen their relationship and create platforms for them to work together for a common national goal.

He commended GETFund for providing funds for the project and gave the assurance that the facility would be used for the benefit of all Ghanaians and foreigners.**
