Obuasi (Ash), Oct. 7, GNA - Mr John Alexander Ackon, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has observed that government would continue to encourage the private sector participation in early childhood development to provide better educational foundation to children. This, he said, was essential for the nurturing and preparation of children in their formative years before they entered primary school level.
Mr Ackon was addressing the closing of a six-week workshop for 49 supervisors of day-care centres in the Obuasi Municipality on Thursday. The workshop organized by the Department of Social Welfare was designed to equip the participants with the requisite skills and knowledge in the performance of their duties.
He emphasized the need for proprietors of day-care centres to provide the necessary facilities at the centres to enhance quality teaching and learning of the children.
The MCE urged the proprietors also to charge affordable school fees. Mr Ackon stated that it was the responsibility of parents and guardians to provide their wards with shelter, clothing, health, education and others to improve their status.
Mr Jacob Achulo, Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, said it was the duty his outfit to ensure efficient and effective operation of day-care centres.
He stressed the need for day-care centres proprietors to register with the Department for approval before operating. Mr Achulo assured supervisors and day-care attendants that the Department would continue to organize periodic training programmes to help them to update their skills.
The Director advised the participants to use their knowledge and expertise acquired during the workshop towards the growth and development of children.
