New Edubiase (Ash), Aug 21, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday re-affirmed the government's commitment to provide a leadership that will not only help to create a just society but will enhance the dignity of the people.

"The government will not in any way disappoint the people and the nation", the President said.

Addressing a well-attended durbar at New Edubiase, the capital of Adansi East District as part of his tour of Ashanti Region, President Kufuor emphasised that his government will never seek the mandate of the people to molest them.

"We want power that is governed by the rule of law", he said. The President said the government has accepted the challenge to serve and gave the assurance that he and his government will continue to serve and place the nation at the rightful place in the international circles.

President Kufuor explained that the Presidential Special Initiatives (PSIs) are aimed at engineering individuals and groups to undertake economic ventures to improve their lot.

He was emphatic that the government itself would not venture to own state farms and other businesses but would encourage groups to go into such ventures through the initiatives.

The President announced that it is part of the government's plans to rehabilitate the New Edubiase town roads to give the capital a face-lift.

On the New Edubiase Secondary School (NESS), the President said he would ask the Education, Youth and Sports Ministry to save it from collapse.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, said the two and a half years of the NPP government has seen remarkable improvement in the cocoa industry.

This is because of the government's encouragement to farmers as well as payment of bonuses and increments in producer prices. Mr Boafo announced that a number of feeder roads in the district are being reshaped to facilitate the movement of people as well as goods and services.

He added that within a relatively short period, 45 school blocks, 42 boreholes and three clinics have been built in the area and asked the people to continue to assist the government to improve their lives. Nana Assiama Guahyia Ababio, the Edubiasehene, commended the government for the upgrading of the New Edubiase health centre into a district hospital.

He appealed to the government to provide more bungalows for tutors and a dormitory for New Edubiase Secondary School. He pledged the support of the chiefs for the government. The President later addressed a durbar at Adansi-Asokwa also in the Adansi East district.
