Government will protect Ghana’s cyber environment - Sowah Odotei

The Deputy Minister of Communication, Vincent Sowah Odotei, says the government will do its best to protect Ghanaians against cyber crime.

Sowah Odotei said that Cabinet is looking at the possible way to fine-tune the legislation on cyber crime.

According to him, ICT has come to stay and there is nothing that can be done about it than to monitor its operations to ensure that Ghana becomes a safe cyber nation.

The minister also admitted technology has become a key factor of production and the emergence of ICT has transformed our way of life, but cautioned the need for everyone to appreciate the threats posed by cyber crime.

He noted that cyber-attacks have become a big treat which cost Ghana 50 million dollars in 2016.

Looking at the numerous benefits of ICT and its impact on both productivity and social life, the minister disclosed that cyber crime needs to be eradicated and for that reason, Government is looking at measures to protect the smart environment.
